Overview: Capture, Organize, Do.
reQall has three main capabilities to help you remember what's important here and now,
Capture your ideas and to-do items before you forget: While you're on the go, you can add items from your Android through Add by voice, Add by text, and Eyes-free recording. These are described in sections below. In addition, you can add items via email, through Instant Messenger, on the web, and by integrating with Outlook.
Automatically organize: reQall makes it easy for you to organize your to-do's by recognizing dates, times, locations, and certain keywords. In addition, you can create and assign categories and tags.
Get more done: reQall's Here and Now displays the items that you need to remember at this time and this location. reQall also provides reminders and notifications to alert you automatically. You can also set up Favorite Lists for the lists you use most frequently.
We'll discuss how to use each of these capabilities in the following sections.
Download and install
There are two ways to download the "reQall for Android" application.
1. From Android Marketplace:
- You can either use the "Search" option or go through the productivity section of Android marketplace to download reQall for Android application.

NOTE: reQall for Android is compatible with Android operating system version 1.5 and above.
The first time you log in:
The first time you launch reQall you'll see the Welcome screen displayed below. To learn more about reQall, slide your finger from right to left across the middle of the screen. You'll see screens that highlight different things you can do with reQall.
If you already have an account with reQall, tap "Login to reQall" and enter your email address and password. If you don't have a reQall account, tap "Sign up via web". The only info you need is your email address (to identify your account and receive reminders), a password, and your time zone (so reminders come at the right time). Once you've entered that info and agreed to the terms of service, tap on "Sign Up."
You'll now see the reQall Home Screen. While reQall is syncing with our data center to set up your account, take a look at the screen.
- In the upper right is the Add icon. You'll use this to capture your ideas and to-dos by voice or text.
- The lower right is the Sync icon. See Syncing your account to learn more.
- The bottom right is the All Lists icon.
- In the upper left is the Share icon. See Reminding someone else to learn more.
Let's get started in the next section by adding something you need to remember.

Adding items by voice
Think of something that you'd like reQall to help you remember. For example, "Call Joe tomorrow at 3:00 pm" or "John Thomas, CEO of Acme, has a golf handicap of 9. His kids' names are Shelly and Vic."
- Tap the Add icon (+ sign in the upper right corner).
- If you aren't on the Add by Voice screen, tap on "Add by Voice."
- Tap anywhere and begin speaking. When you're done, tap again.
- You'll see the Properties screen where you can assign location, category, tags, due date/time, repeating dates, and who the item is shared with. Tap on the property to assign a value. Or, leave the property as "Let reQall decide". Learn more about what reQall understands in Automatic organization below.
- Tap "Save" to go back to the Add by Voice screen. You can add another item or tap "Cancel" to go back to the screen you started on.
You can change the add by voice settings to allow faster recording of multiple items.
- Tap on the Settings icon (the wheel in the bottom left corner).
- Under "After adding by voice" tap on "Tap to record another".
- Try recording an item. Once you've completed the recording, you won't see the screen with properties. Instead you'll return to the add by voice screen. You can tap to record another item.
- If you want to edit the properties of an item, you can tap on "Edit Last Recording" at the bottom of the screen. This will take you to the Properties screen.
Adding by text
- Tap the Add icon (+ sign in the upper right corner).
- If you aren't on Add by Text, tap on "Add by Text".
- Tap in the blank box to display a keyboard. Enter the item.
- Hit the "return" key on your device to hide the keypad.
- You can assign values to the item properties, such as location, category, tags, due date/time, repeating dates, and who the item is shared with. Tap on the property to assign a value. Or, leave the property as "Let reQall decide". Learn more about what reQall understands in Automatic organization below.
- Tap "Save" to save the item.
- You can enter another item or tap "Cancel" to go back to the screen you started on.
Reminding someone else
You can share items to your friends, family and colleagues to help them remember what's important. To share an item:
- Tap on the Share icon in the upper left corner of the Home screen (it looks like a person with an arrow).
- Choose who you want to remind. reQall will display a list of your Android contacts (only those with email addresses) and your reQall contacts. You can search for a specific contact or scroll through your contacts. Once you've found the name of the person you want to remind, tap on the name.
- You can now create the item by voice or by text, just as you did in the sections above.
- You can assign a due date/time or repeating date/time, or you can "Let reQall decide". Other properties are not used when sharing items.
- You can now enter another item to share with this person or tap "Save" to go back to the Home screen.
Notes:
- When you share to another reQall user, the reminder is added to their reQall account. When you share with someone who doesn’t use reQall, the reminder is sent by email.
- There's no need to import your contacts into reQall. reQall integrates with your Android contact list directly. You can add contacts to reQall on the web if you choose.
To view shared items:
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "People".
- Select a name to see the items you've shared with that person. Note: you'll only see people you've shared items with or contacts you've added on the web. You won't see all your Android contacts.
You can also make a people list a "favorite" by tapping on the star next to the person's name. See
Favorite Lists below.
More ways to share items:
- You can share from the "Add by text" screen without using the share wizard. Type Ask, Tell or Remind followed by an email address. For example, "Ask joe123@gmail.com to call about the order." For reQall contacts, you can use their name rather than their email address. For example, "Ask Joe to call about the order."
- With both Add by Text and Add by Voice, you can select the "Shared to" property and select a contact.
Syncing your account
reQall stores your items both on your Android and in the reQall data center. This allows you to access your items from your Android, the web, a regular phone and other tools.
- When you have a live data connection, reQall automatically syncs your data as you use the application.
- When you do not have a live data connection, reQall stores your updates on the Android until there is a connection available so that it can sync with the reQall data center.
- reQall automatically attempts synchronization every 15 minutes unless you change the sync default on the main Settings screen (see General Settings below). You can also tap the Sync icon (the circular arrow at the bottom right on the Home screen) at any time to sync immediately (if a data connection is available).
Organize
Automatic organization: Let reQall decide
reQall makes it easy to organize your to-do's by automatically organizing for you when you "Let reQall decide". reQall looks at the content of the item and recognizes dates, times and certain keywords. See a list of what reQall recognizes
here. You can also organize manually. reQall supports organization by date/time, location, category and tags.
Organizing by date/time
You can assign dates and times to your items simply by including the dates and times in the item. Dates can include relative dates, such as tomorrow or next Tuesday, and repeating dates, such as every Thursday. See what reQall recognizes
here.
You can also assign a date and time manually when you are adding or editing an item. From the Properties screen (when adding) or Details screen (when editing) tap on "Due". Use the date and time buttons to assign a specific date and time. Below the specific date/time buttons is a scrollable list of relative dates, starting with Never (which means the item has no due date) and going to "In a year". Tap on the relative date to assign it to an item.
You can also manually assign how often the item repeats by tapping on "Repeats" in the Properties or Details screen. A subset of the repeat possibilities are provided in a scrollable list starting with "Does not repeat" and going through "every year". You can also assign a date on which the repetition will end. Tap on the "On" button under Until. Then pick the date when this item should end.
reQall organizes your items by date into the following lists:
- Recently Added: anything added in the last 24 hours
- Today: see below on how to configure what is on your today list.
- Soon: items due in the next week.
- Later: items due beyond the next week.
- Overdue
- No due date
To see any of these lists:
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "Time".
You can also make a location list a "favorite" by tapping on the star next to the location name. See
Favorite Lists below.
You can configure what's on your Today list to match the way you work.
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Tap on "Time", then on "Today".
- Tap on the Settings icon (the wheel icon in the bottom left corner).
- You can choose to include items that have no due date, that are due soon, or that are overdue on your Today list.
Organizing by location (Pro only)
reQall Pro accounts start with two locations: Home and Work. You can add as many others as you would like. To add a new location: - From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "Location".
- Select the Add location icon (a pin with a + sign in the bottom right corner).
- Enter the name of the location.
- You can move the pin on the map to find the physical location. On the web, you can also create locations by entering an address.
- Tap on "Save".
Note: if you don't want a physical location assigned, tap "off" for "Use map".
You can assign an item to a location in two ways.
- While adding an item you can include the phrase "at" followed by the location name. For example, "at Home". reQall will automatically assign the item to that location.
- While adding or editing an item, you can select the location property and then select a location name.
To see a list of the items assigned to a location:
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.

Favorite Lists below.
Note: In order to use locations, "Location Services" must be turned "On". See
General Settings below.
Organizing by category

- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "Category".
- Select the Add category icon in the bottom right corner.
- Enter a name for the category.
- Click on "Save".
To assign a category to an item:
- While viewing a specific category list, any items that you create will default to that category. For example, go to "All Lists", then select "Categories", then select "Shopping List". Now add a new item. That item will automatically be assigned to the "Shopping List" category.
- Items can be automatically assigned to the "Notes" or "Shopping List" category based on the words that you use in the item. See a list of what reQall recognizes here.
- You can manually assign an item to a category while adding by voice, adding by text, or editing the item. Tap on the category property in the Properties screen (while adding) or Details screen (while editing) and select a category name.
To see a list of the items assigned to a category:
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "Category".
- Tap on a category to view the items for that category.
You can also make a category list a "favorite" by tapping on the star next to the category name. See

- Click on "Save".
You can also create new tags when you are assigning a tag to an item while adding by voice, adding by text, or editing an item. To assign/create a tag:
- Select the tag property on the Properties screen (when adding) or the Details screen (when editing).
- To assign an existing tag, select the tag name. You can tap on multiple names to assign more than one tag.
- To create a new tag, enter the tag name in the text field.
- To create/assign multiple tags, separate the tag names by commas.
To see a list of the items assigned to a tag:
- From the Home screen, Select the All Lists icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select "Tags".
- Tap on a tag to view the items for that tag.
You can also make a tag list a "favorite" by tapping on the star next to the tag name. See
Favorite Lists below.
Browsing
reQall provides many different lists for you to browse your items. "All Items" and "Recently Added" lists are in your Favorite Lists by default. To see other lists, tap on the
All Lists icon on the bottom left corner of the home screen. The Time, Category, Location and Tags lists are described in the
Organizing sections above. The People lists are described in
Reminding someone else. You can make any list a "favorite" by tapping on the star next to the list name. See
Favorite Lists below.
You can group the items in any list.
- In any list, tap on the Settings icon (the wheel on the bottom left corner).
- You can group items by category, person, due date, creation date, or no grouping.
- You can also show or hide completed items in the list by going to the "General settings" screen and selecting "Show/hide completed items.
Searching
Any list that has items has a search option, just open the menu and select "Search". Tap in the search box and enter the word or phrase you'd like to find. You can choose to search just the items in that list or all items in your account.

Do
Here and Now
reQall provides a continuously updated list of what you need to know on the Here and Now screen. It analyzes your situation—looking at the current time, your current location (or a location that you specify) and the upcoming items on your calendar, so you know exactly what you need in your current context.
To manually change the location for your Here and Now screen
- Click on the Settings icon (a wheel on the bottom left) . Select a specific location name. Select "Auto-detect Locations nearby" to reinstate automatic location detection.
- While in Here and Now settings, you can also specify how close you have to be for that location's items to appear.
Other notes about the Here and Now list;
- If you have Google Calendar integrated with reQall, your Google Calendar items will also show on your Here and Now list. reQall will pull items from up to 5 Google Calendars that you have access to.
Note: All location functionality requires a reQall Pro account.
Favorite Lists
Favorite Lists give you quick access to the lists you use most frequently. Initially, "All Items" and "Recently Added" will be in your favorite list. There are two ways that you can define a list as a favorite.
- On the Home screen, select the All Lists icon on the bottom left corner. Select one of the sections labeled "Time", "Category", "Location", "People", "Tags". To mark a list as a favorite, click on the star by the name of the list.
- On the Home screen, tap on "Edit" by Favorite Lists. Tap on "Add a favorite list". Select one of the sections labeled "Time", "Category", "Location", "People", "Tags". To mark a list as a favorite, click on the star by the name of the list.
Extras
General settings
Within Settings, you can make the following changes:
- Turn GPS on or off. GPS is necessary to provide location-based reminders. However, GPS may drain your battery faster than normal. If you experience issues with battery life, you may want to uncheck "Enable GPS" whenever you don't need location-based reminders.
- A location-based reminder will be sent when you are "near" a location that has an item assigned to it. You can define how close "near" is. If you are in a city, you may want to set "near" to be a smaller distance than if you are in a more rural environment.
- If you would prefer to not see your completed items, check "Hide completed items".
- You can set how often reQall for Android syncs with the reQall data center. You can choose every 15 minutes, every hour or once a day.
- You can choose whether to use Android's voice recognizer or Yap's voice recognizer.
- If you want to receive an alert on your Android for location or time-based reminders, ensure that "Enable notifications" is checked.
Outlook and Google Calendar
reQall has many other capabilities that can enhance your reQall for Android experience. These include:
- Integrate with Outlook (Pro only). This enables you to create meetings, tasks, and notes in reQall and see them in your Outlook calendar, task list and notes. It will also bring your Outlook items into reQall.
- Integrate with Google Calendar (Pro only). reQall tasks and meetings are synced with your Google Calendar. In addition, you can see the items from up to 5 Google Calendars in your Here and Now list.
- Clip items off the web using reQall for Firefox.
- Interact with reQall using your Instant Messenger account.
- Add items to reQall via email (Pro only).
We'll be adding more information to this help site about each of these capabilities. In the meantime, you can read general descriptions of these features at
www.reqall.com/about. If you have questions, just ask on
GetSatisfaction or email
support@reqall.com.
Uninstalling / Reinstalling
Although it is uncommon, the reQall support team occasionally recommends that a user remove and re-install the application to solve a support issue. Just in case, here’s how to do it:
- Go to the "Settings" screen of your device and select "Applications" from the list.
- Once inside the "Applications settings" screen, select "Manage applications".
- In the "Manage settings" screen you will see a list of applications that are installed/running on your device. From the list, select "reQall".
From the application info screen, select "Uninstall".
- There are two ways to re-install the application. Either go to the Android marketplace and download the application or open the Android browser and go to http://www.reqall.com/android.
Sending a debug log
If you have a problem, our support team may request that you send a debug log.
- From the home screen, tap on the menu key, then on "Settings".
- From the settings screen, tap on the menu key, then on "Send Debug Log".
- You'll see a dialog to confirm that you want to send a debug log. Tap "OK".
- Choose an application to send the log. (You'll only see this if you have more than one email application.)
- If you don't have an email client set up you may be asked to set up a client.
- Tap "Send" to send the log.
